Rabbi Allen Darnov
Here’s a link to this year’s High Holy Day schedule.
High Holy Day schedule(10/8)
Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day (5/1)
Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, marks the establishment of the modern state of Israel in 1948. On May 14, 1948, soon-to-be Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion issued a declaration of the State of Israel, which was soon recognized by the United States, the Soviet Union and many other countries.
Please join us this Friday, May 13, for a special evening of solidarity, spirituality, fun, song, probably some dancing and (of course) food as we celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day -- RTPV style!
We invite you to gather with us for this joyous occasion.
We look forward to seeing you at our temple starting at 8:00 pm (dancing shoes optional). Guests are welcome!

Simchat Torah(10/1)

SIMCHAT TORAH SERVICE
Friday Oct. 1st. 8:00 PM
Just like all of you, when I think of Simchat Torah, my thoughts turn to... Rap music. So get out your old turntables, start scratching out some LP's while the beatbox is going down, and rap along to this little song:
It's time for Simchat Torah
So let's all do the horah
Don't need to be a schnora
Come celebrate with us.
We will sing and dance, so
Just go and take a chance, bro
and loosen up your stance, yo
Come celebrate with us.
We got something to prove, see
The Rebbe likes to groove, he
is better than a mov-ie
Come celebrate with us
Here is how we role
We take out the Torah scroll
Unravel it from pole to pole
Come celebrate with us
There's music in the air
Our voices raised in prayer
It's wonderful to share
Come celebrate with us.
So let the fun begin
Now that you're rid of all your sins
Ain't no way that you can't win
Come celebrate with us.

Join us in our Sukkah
Shake the Lulav and the Etrog
All ages welcome!
Sukkot reminds us that ultimate security is found not within the walls of our home but in the presence of God and one another.… The walls of our sukkot may make us vulnerable, but they make us available, too, to receive the kindness and the support of one another, to hear when another calls out in need, to poke our heads in to see whether anybody is up for a chat and a cup of coffee.… Sukkot reminds us that freedom is enjoyed best not when we are hidden away behind our locked doors but rather when we are able to open our homes and our hearts to one another.”
-- The Tapestry of Jewish Time, 86-87
Sukkot is called “the season of our joy,” Z’man Simchateinu. Being free, feeling joy, takes courage. It is a risk to walk through your fear and experience life. This year, let the sukkah remind you to take that risk and try something new, feel deeply content and sincerely connect with another person.

Dancing with the...(10/9)
Well, now we give you... (wait for it)... (almost here)...
"Dancing With the Jews"
Led by Rabbi Darnov, please join us at the Reform Temple of Putnam Valley this Friday, October 9th, for Simchat Torah.
You’ve heard him sing, you’ve seen him play guitar, you’ve survived his jokes and now witness the event of the year: the Dancing Rabbi!
Simchat Torah means "Rejoicing in the Torah." This holiday marks the completion of the annual cycle of weekly Torah readings. Simchat Torah is the time that we finish reading the Torah and then proceed immediately to the first chapter of Genesis, reminding us that the Torah is a circle, and never ends. This completion of the readings is a time of great celebration.
Join us on Friday evening, October 9th, for this wonderful evening with family, friends and fellow congregants as we celebrate the holiday of Simchat Torah with laughter, with song, with dance and with much joy.
(And unlike Dancing With the Stars, we don’t judge anyone, so feel free to let it all hang out.)
Word from the Rabbi: Simhat Torah (10/9)
This is to confirm that we should be observing Simhat Torah on Friday evening 10/9, which is the true date it is observed in Israel and among Reform.
