Protest Israel's Conversion Bill(8/3)
07/26/10 03:38 Filed in: Rabbi
This week, despite commitments to the contrary, the Israeli Knesset is considering legislation that would fundamentally change the Law of Conversion and further concentrate power with the Chief Rabbinate. The bill would give the Chief Rabbinate exclusive oversight of all conversion matters, putting non-Orthodox conversions performed abroad at risk, and greatly limiting the options available to Israelis and olim (immigrants to Israel) wishing to convert or in need of 'official' recognition...
It is critical that Prime Minister Netanyahu hear a loud and clear message from Diaspora Jewry that further alienation of non-Orthodox Jews goes against our deeply held beliefs in Klal Yisrael and creates a dangerous rift between Israel and world Jewry at a time when the relationship between North America and Israel is so vital. We urge you to contact the Prime Minister as soon as possible and share your concern over the future of religious freedom in Israel, the character of the Jewish State, and the relationship between Israel and the Diaspora.
Go to http://urj.org/israel/rotem/ and send a letter or sign a petition notifying Prime Minister Netanyahu of our opposition to this offensive bill.

Renegades Road Trip (8/3)
07/17/10 02:09 Filed in: Family
The Reform Temple of Putnam Valley
has a Road Trip!
Join your friends, Temple members and
non-members for a
Hudson Valley Renegades game!
On Tuesday, August 3 at 7:05PM, the Renegades take on the Brooklyn Cyclones!
Each ticket is $11.00 and the seats are behind home plate. Since it’s a weeknight, we won’t be doing a tailgate party, but food and beverages are reasonably priced at the Stadium.
The game is less than 3 weeks away so let Phil Hurowitz know ASAP (deadline: July 26) if you’d like to join us and how many tickets! Email with any questions.

Summer Special Services (7/30)
07/17/10 02:09 Filed in: Services
Yes, even Rabbis need some down time now and then. Please join us this Friday evening, July 16th, for our Shabbat Service, led by our Rabbi Darnov, who will then be going on a well deserved vacation.
The following week, July 23rd, the Sisterhood of the Reform Temple of Putnam Valley will be leading the Shabbat service and they have invited Pastor Tony Mecca of the Grace United Methodist Church as their special guest. Pastor Mecca has graciously agreed to give the sermon that evening and it promises to be an interesting and enlightening event.
On Friday, July 30th, Ed and Roni Rodman will lead our service and Pastor Mecca has agreed to say a few words then as well (what can we say -- he likes us. What's not to like?)
We ask that you join us as we welcome Pastor Mecca into our house of worship, as he has so often welcomed us into his.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
